An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Long Australian Daybill Movie Poster (db; measures 14 3/4" x 39 1/4" [37 x 100 cm]) (Learn More) Charlie Chan in Paris, the 1935 Lewis Seiler France Asian detective mystery crime thriller (based on the characters by Earl Derr Biggers) starring Warner Oland (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Mary Brian, Thomas Beck, Erik Rhodes, Keye Luke, Dorothy Appleby, John Miljan, and Henry Kolker. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! The poster had a small area of paper loss at the middle of the middle foldline (in Chan's hair), with an irregular shaped area of paper loss in the upper left edge of Chan's hair, extending upward into the bottom of the "L" of "LEWIS". There were small tears and areas of paper loss in the left of those three actor credits. There were pinholes, tears, and paper loss around the edges of the poster, and a few scattered in the image. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. A really talented restorer linenbacked the poster, and performed careful expert restoration to the above defects. The poster displays well, but the restorer avoided using heavy paint which would have given the poster a "restored" look, and instead specifically touched up the exact defects above. From any reasonable viewing distance, the poster looks great, and it is only on the closest inspection that you see the restoration. Learn More about condition grades
