An Original Vintage English Movie Trade Ad (measures 11" x 17" [28 x 43 cm]; 2 pages) (Learn More)

Vice Versa, the 1948 Peter Ustinov English body switch fantasy comedy (based on the novel by F. Anstey; about a stuffy businessman who switches bodies with his teenage son, and their personalities are drastically altered) starring Roger Livesey, Kay Walsh, David Hutcheson, Petula Clark (16 years old in an early role!), Anthony Newley (billed as "introducing Anthony Newley", in a dual role; this was his first credited movie role, and he was only 16!), James Robertson Justice (in his second credited movie role!), and Patricia Raine. Note that Peter Ustinov, who wrote the screenplay for this movie from the novel, was somehow able to direct the movie and also be the co-producer! Likely this is because he had a very colorful background. He was a mixture of many cultures, growing up in an eccentric family and able to speak five languages. In the late 1930s, he acted and wrote several plays, but then served in World War II from 1942 to 1946 (he was David Niven's batman, and the two were lifelong friends). After the war, he had some success as a director, including this movie, but by the early 1950s, he was primarily a character actor, although he returned to writing and directing in the 1960s. Also note that the plot of this movie was reused many, many times, including in "Freaky Friday" (both the original and the remake).

Important Added Info: Note that this is a country of origin trade ad for this English movie. Also note that this is 1 of 29 great two-page trade ads taken out of Kinematograph Weekly English trade magazines. Studios would run these elaborate 2-page ads in issues of this magazine, and they often had images not found on any of the regular movie posters (either English or U.S.). This 2-page trade ad was removed from a 1948 issue of this magazine, and it will look incredible displayed on the new owner's wall. The back of those two pages have text or ads for other movies from that time, and we have not pictured those back pages, because, of course, the primary interest to bidders is the great two-page color ad, which measures 11" x 17". Earlier in 2018, we auctioned 18 similar 2-page English trade ads, and all but a handful auctioned for $20 each or more, and two sold for over $100 each!

Condition: very good. The trade ad was removed from a magazine, and there is slight paper loss and wear where the staples were, but it is otherwise in pretty nice condition (see our image).
