Amelia Earhart was famous female pilot who was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Earhart is surely the most famous female aviatrix of all time, and this is partly because, in 1937, she attempted to fly around the world, and her plane disappeared, and her whereabouts, and what happened to her in the plane has never been solved, despite many intense investigations into her disappearance, continuing to the present day! She was declared dead in absentia in 1939 at the age of 41.
