An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Herald (measures 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" [11 x 14 cm]; 4 pages) (Learn More)

A Free Soul, the 1931 Clarence Brown (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) family relationship legal lawyer crime romantic melodrama ("She was born in an age of freedom"; "From the book by Adela Rogers St. Johns. Dialogue continuity by John Meehan."; about a rich lawyer in California who brings a mobster client home with him, and his free-spirited daughter runs off with the mobster!) starring Norma Shearer (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Leslie Howard, Lionel Barrymore (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), James Gleason, Clark Gable (one of an amazing 13 movies he appeared in this year, the year he started getting billed, and he is fifth billed, below James Gleason, even though he has a major role in the movie!), Lucy Beaumont, and Roscoe Ates. Note that Lucy Beaumont was an English stage actress who was born in 1869 and came to Hollywood in 1914, at the age of 45, and she played "old lady" roles for the next 20+ years, usually playing a woman much older than herself. She was nicknamed "The Mother of Hollywood", and she passed away in 1937 at the age of 68.
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
Important Added Info: Note that it shows just how much bigger of a star Norma Shearer was than Clark Gable in 1931, because only her image and name were used on the cover of this herald! Of course, it helped that her husband ran MGM, but just a couple years later, Gable became their biggest star! Also note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this herald (but those had orange instead of pink coloring)!

Condition: very good.
