Appears in Vintage Hollywood Posters 6 CATALOG SOLD OUT The image at right appears in the auction catalog we published as shown above and was sold long ago and we do NOT have it available for purchase. Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) South of the Rio Grande, the 1932 Lambert Hillyer south-of-the-border Mexican cowboy western ("Fighting for love and life!"; about a man who seeks to avenge his brother's suicide after a manipulative woman and her accomplice swindle his family!) starring Buck Jones (billed as "Fearless fighting Buck Jones"), Mona Maris, Doris Hill, Philo McCullough, and George J. Lewis. Note that Buck Jones' white horse was named Silver (just like The Lone Ranger's later on!), and Silver made 73 movies with Buck Jones from 1922 until Jones' death in 1942 in the tragic Cocoanut Grove fire. But oddly, Silver was almost never billed on the posters for Buck Jones' movies as so many other famous horses (most especially Tom Mix's Tony) were! Note that many people consider the one-sheet from this movie (with a striking close up image of Buck Jones with a sombrero against a purple background) to be one of the finest cowboy movie posters ever! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. The poster is linenbacked; prior to restoration the poster had many pairs of staple holes around the edges of the poster in the blank borders, as well as a few other minor border defects; the person who restored the poster put new paper over much of the blank borders (it was very expertly done and most people would not realize it unless it was specifically shown to them); the image area of the poster had small tears in the bottom 1/3 of the vertical foldline and small tears in the left half of the middle foldline, as well as a 6" horizontal crease in Jones' purple cheek 1/2" above the middle foldline; there were small holes at each crossfold; other than these defects, the image area was in quite nice condition! The person who restored this poster did a really excellent job restoring the above defects in the image area. You can see them from up close, but from any distance away, they are not very noticeable or distracting. There are very few examples of this poster in nice condition! The solid purple background scuffs very easily, and it is very difficult to repair any defects in that background without pretty much repainting the entire purple area (I have seen several examples of the poster that have a "heavily restored" look to them). The poster offered here has had a minimal amount of paint in the purple area, and yet it still looks quite nice! Learn More about condition grades
