An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style C One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Saratoga, the 1937 Jack Conway New York romantic mismatched couple horse racing sports gambling comedy ("Original Story and Screen play by Anita Loos and Robert Hopkins"; about the daughter of an owner of a horse farm who lost it to a gambler just before he died, and the gambler offers to give her back the farm and forgive the debt, but she insists on repaying it, and even though the two hate each other at first sight, they come to fall in love!) starring Clark Gable, Jean Harlow, Lionel Barrymore, Frank Morgan, Walter Pidgeon, Cliff Edwards, Una Merkel, Hattie McDaniel, and Margaret Hamilton (in an uncredited role). This was Jean Harlow's final movie (she died from kidney failure during the filming, and her last few scenes had to be completed by a stunt double). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this one-sheet, and that was 21 years ago, when it sold for $710! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had uneven darkening through most of the white background areas and extending over a small part of the credits, but not the title or images. It had tiny bits of paper loss on parts of most folds, with pinholes around the edges. The poster was mounted onto a thin linen many years ago, with excess on the left only. We strongly suspect that the uneven darkening was caused by the restoration paint that the restorer back then used, which likely was white, and helped to even out the background, but over the years changed to a light brown color (perhaps something about the paint caused this). If we owned this extremely rare poster, we would have a restorer remove it from the thin linen and redo the background areas, and properly linenback the poster. Please bear all of the above in mind and look at our super-sized image before bidding on this poster. Learn More about condition grades
