A 1934 Re-Release Vintage German Film Program (measures 9" x 11 1/2" [23 x 29 cm]; 8 pages) (Learn More) Der Ruf des Nordens (literally translates to "The Call of the North"), the 1929 Nunzio Malasomma & Mario Bonnard German adventure melodrama starring Luis Trenker, Max Holzboer, Eva von Berne, Nico Turoff, and Aribert Mog. It appears this movie was never released in the U.S. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that star Luis Trenker was a "Renaissance man". He was a champion skier and mountain climber who made a movie with Arnold Fanck, and continued acting, writing, and directing movies! The Nazi regime had high hopes for him as a director of propaganda movies, but he had no political views, and when the Nazis came to full power, he went to Hollywood. He wanted to make a biography of Johann Sutter in the U.S., but Paramount did not want a prominent German directing the movie, and James Cruze made it instead, which greatly disillusioned Trenker, and he returned to Germany after the war. Not only did he have a remarkably full life, but he lived to the age of 97! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" item for this German movie! Also note that this item has been trimmed and it now measures 9" x 11 1/2" [23 x 29 cm]. Note that we have provided an image of four of the pages of this 8-page program (we did this by opening it and laying it flat and photographing the front and back cover together, and two of the interior pages together). You can see the four of the eight pages, and can well determine the exact condition of it from our super-sized image, but realize that there are four pages you are not seeing. But of course this means that the front cover appears in the top right of our image, but normally, the program would be folded down the center and you would view the cover by itself (and it will be sent folded as was originally intended). Condition: good. The program has two punch holes in the center of the left of the cover and in the corresponding area on the interior pages, because the program was stored in a 2-ring binder. The program was once in a bound volume and it was slightly trimmed on the top and bottom, and there is tiny paper loss in several places in the spine, where it was once attached to the bound volume.
