A 1971 Re-release Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Thirty by Forty Movie Poster (measures 30" x 40") (Learn More) My Fair Lady, the classic 1964 George Cukor (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) England romantic love triangle rich-educated-man/poor-flower-girl musical ("The most loverly motion picture event of all!......"; "Based upon the play 'My Fair Lady'"; "From the play by Bernard Shaw"; adapted from the hit Broadway play by Lerner and Loewe, which itself was adapted from George Bernard Shaw's non-musical "Pygmalion"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Audrey Hepburn (as Eliza Doolittle), Rex Harrison (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; as Henry Higgins), Stanley Holloway (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Alfred Doolittle), Wilfrid Hyde-White (as Colonel Pickering), Gladys Cooper (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Jeremy Brett (as Freddy Eynsford-Hill), and Theodore Bikel. Of course, the making of this movie was the center of a major controversy! When Hollywood went to make this movie adaptation of this hit play in 1964 (after it completed its Broadway run, where Julie Andrews had played Eliza Doolittle), they were fine with retaining the lead stars of the stage production EXCEPT for Julie Andrews, because she wasn't a big enough "name"! They replaced her with Audrey Hepburn, which was especially surprising, given that Miss Hepburn could not sing the part, and Marni Nixon was brought in to sing the songs for her (but that was uncredited and carefully kept under wraps, and Miss Nixon was not allowed to admit to it!). This was very unfortunate for Julie Andrews, but in an unusual twist of fate, she made Mary Poppins that year, and, while My Fair Lady swept the top Oscars with the Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor awards, Miss Andrews won the Best Actress award over Miss Hepburn (who wasn't even nominated!)! Artist: Bob Peak Important Added Info: Note that for this re-release, Warner Brothers used the exact same plates as from the original printing, but added a very large oval snipe with the following tagline in the upper right: "When a Lady is applauded by 30 million people, she owes them an encore." Condition: good. many creases, scuffs, and a few tears around the edges of the poster with a much lesser number within the image area This poster is in "lesser" condition (what many dealers would describe as "good" or "good to very good", or in the case of posters with more serious defects, which should be easily seen on our large images, "fair")! It has clear defects, which are likely to be very noticeable in our "large" or "super-sized" images that you can click on from our small image at right. In addition, we have also noted in words what these defects are in our "Description of Defects" section above, as some of these defects may not be all that visible in the images (reading what we wrote and looking at the super-sized image should tell you right away whether it is in "good to very good", "good", or "fair" condition). We know that some collectors could accept this poster's defects, and display it as is, and we also know that many collectors would only be happy with this poster if they had it restored, so please do not bid on it unless you can accept it as it is, or are willing to pay to have it properly restored. Of course, you should realize that if you do not bid on this poster because of its condition defects, it may be quite some time before you see this poster offered again!
