Date Sold 2/4/2021 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 8 Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Singin' in the Rain, the classic 1952 Stanley Donen & Gene Kelly romantic musical comedy (considered by most the best musical of all time!; "What a glorious feeling"; "MGM's Technicolor Musical Treasure!"; "Suggested by the song 'Singin' In the Rain'"; about a Hollywood movie studio in the late 1920s that wants to begin making sound pictures, but their top leading lady has a dreadful voice, plus they have great difficulties adapting to the sound equipment; pretty young Debbie Reynolds comes along to dub in the singing voice of the primadonna leading lady, played to perfection by Jean Hagen) starring Gene Kelly (as Don Lockwood), Donald O'Connor (as Cosmo Brown), Debbie Reynolds (as Kathy Selden), Jean Hagen (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; as Lina Lamont), Millard Mitchell (as R.F. Simpson), and Cyd Charisse (unnamed, only referred to as "Dancer"). Note that this greatest of all Hollywood musicals had an odd beginning! The title song had been sung in "The Hollywood Revue of 1929" by Cliff Edwards, and that inspired this movie, and in addition, the song "Make 'Em Laugh" was basically plagiarized from "Be a Clown", from "The Pirate"! Important Added Info: Note that this set, and 47 others (which are each in their own auction) come to us from a collector who started collecting DECADES ago! Not only was this a time when you could still find complete sets on titles like these, and with some extra looking, you could still find nice condition sets! This is a rare opportunity to not only purchase many complete sets on titles that are usually found broken up and sold by the card, but also a chance to get a nice condition set (see below for the exact condition of this specific set). Condition: very good. The title card has a small dot stain in the upper left credits where it is not very noticeable or distracting whatsoever. Card #2 has a few creases at right and card #3 has a few light scuffs. Card #4 has one pair of staple holes at upper left in the blank corner and some light edge wear and card #5 has a few light creases on top of the image. Card #6 has only a few light scuffs and card #7 has a tiny pinhole in each blank corner. Card #8 has a small amount of slight discoloration at lower left with a very light ripple to that area. Other than that card (see our image) the cards have only some minor defects as listed above and are otherwise in pretty nice condition and they have no tape whatsoever on the front or back, and they never have had any restoration of any kind!
