Original Vintage Comic Book (measure 6 1/2" x 10") (Learn More)

Felix the Cat is a feline cartoon character (he had a "Magic Bag of Tricks") created in 1923 by animator Pat Sullivan, but many feel that most or all of the credit for Felix's actual creation should go to Otto Messmer, who was the lead animator for Sullivan at his studio (and who drew most of the early Felix cartoons, comic strips, and posters). The comic strip first appeared in 1923, and cartoons and toys quickly followed. Felix is one of the most recognized cartoon characters in film history. The franchise has spawned comics, television shows, and various merchandise. Felix WAS the most popular cartoon character in the world in the 1920s, but Pat Sullivan made a crucial error when he did not think that his cartoons needed sound, and Mickey Mouse did have sound, and he quickly supplanted Felix as the most popular cartoon character, and even though sound Felix cartoons were then created, he had lost much popularity. However, in the 1950s, new Felix cartoons were created, and he has been the subject of many cartoons and endless toys and other licensed items ever since!

Condition: fine. two extremely tiny bumps in the middle of the top edge of the front cover; Interior pages are slightly darkened, more so around the edges of each page (I don't know if this is typical of Dell comics of this period).

Note that while I was a comic book dealer from 1967 to 1976, I had nothing to do with comics for the 25 years since then (I sold a few major comics on eBay the last couple of years). I am really not knowledgeable about current grading standards. However, this Felix comic (and the others that have this paragraph on them) were bought by this VERY dedicated Felix collector (see elsewhere for more about his collection), and were purchased off newsstands, from comic shops, and at conventions, and he stored them carefully ever since! This particular comic has a few very minor imperfections (most likely caused by being looked through a few times over the years), but overall is in really excellent condition (back in the early 1970s, we would have called this comic "near mint")! Please do not e-mail me any questions about this comic, as I would not be able to take the time to answer them. Please either bid or do not bid based on what is written here and the images of the comic's front and back covers.
