Date Sold 3/14/2023Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe 10" x 13" [25 x 33 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) A Lady to Love, the 1930 Victor Sjostrom (he was a major Swedish director of the 1910s and 1920s, and late in his life, he turned to acting, giving memorable performances in several Ingmar Bergman movies, most notably "Wild Strawberries") romantic love triangle melodrama (based on a play by Sidney Howard; a wealthy California vineyard owner has romantic correspondence with a San Francisco waitress, and he sends a picture of his young handsome brother and pretends it is him; when his girlfriend meets him, he reveals the deception, and she seemingly does not mind, but then she falls for his brother) starring Vilma Banky, Edward G. Robinson (in his fifth movie role!), Robert Ames (ironically, Ames is 4 years older than Robinson, playing the younger brother!), Richard Carle, and Lloyd Ingraham. Note that this movie was made the year before Little Caesar, and Edward G. Robinson was not yet a star, and so the advertising for the movie entirely focuses on Vilma Banky! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this wonderful candid still shows an MGM studio portrait of Edward G. Robinson by Ruth Harriet Louise, and, of course, as noted above, he was not used for much of the advertising for this movie, but it is great that they created this wonderful portrait of him! Note that the movie is called "Sunkissed" on the back of this still, which was the working title for this movie! Also note that this still measures 10" x 13" [25 x 33 cm], but it has not been trimmed, and it is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock and it has an embossed photographer's stamp in one of the bottom corners.. Note that we are currently auctioning over 100 ultra rare 11x14 stills (some measure slightly smaller) that are mostly from the 1930s, all in separate auctions! The highlight of these is the 58 of them that were consigned to us by a collector who acquired them many years ago, and they feature wonderful images of many of the greatest 1930s Hollywood stars, including James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, Gary Cooper, Edward G. Robinson, and many others! These are many times more rare than 8x10 stills, and are very rarely offered for sale or at auction, and many of these may be "one of a kind"! This is a very rare opportunity to acquire one or many of these extreme rarities! Condition: good. The still has changed to a sepia color, and there is an area of discoloration by Robinson's eye that slightly enters his cheek (see our image). The photo was in an album and removed, and there is paper and glue residue on the back of each corner. Learn More about condition grades
