An Original Vintage Theatrical 7" x 8 1/2" [18 x 22 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Irving G. Thalberg was a producer, writer and director from the 1920s to the 1930s. In 1920 at 21, he became an executive at Universal Studios, which was then the number one movie studio. He did well there, but he had a failed romance with owner Carl Laemmle's daughter, which likely caused him to leave the studio, and he signed with Louis B. Mayer. When Mayer joined with Metro to form MGM, Thalberg rose in the ranks at the new combined studio and helped turn MGM into the number one studio. He married actress Norma Shearer, and greatly helped her career at MGM. While he made most of the decisions at MGM, he took no screen credit, except on a single movie! Tragically, he died in 1936 of pneumonia, at just 37. Important Added Info: Note that this still shows the "Boy Wonder" of the movies, Irving Thalberg, talking to one of the greatest men in the history of radio, Dr. Lee De Forest. De Forest is mostly forgotten today, but he made and lost several fortunes and was an important figure in many scientific advances of the late 1800s and early 1900s. The still has been trimmed, so the writing on the back can't be read completely, but it seems likely that De Forest was talking to Thalberg about an invention that would greatly improve "talking pictures". If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that this still has been trimmed and it now measures 7" x 8 1/2" [18 x 22 cm]. Condition: fair to good. The still has been unevenly trimmed around the figures of the two men. Learn More about condition grades
