Date Sold 8/3/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Campaign Book (measures 9 1/2" x 12 1/2" [24 x 32 cm]; 7 pages) (Learn More) Columbia Pictures 1938, the campaign booklet sent to theater-owners to encourage them to book Columbia movies. Note that this unusual booklet is actually a die-cut folder. It has an opening in the cover so you can see "Worth While Pictures" on the first interior page, and instead of having bound pages, it has a flap on the inside of the folder that contains 13 loose pages, each of which is an advertisement for a different movie, including Blondie (the first live action adaptation of the comic strip), Only Angels Have Wings (when it was known as "Plane #4"), Frank Capra's You Can't Take It With You, and several others, including a great one for Golden Boy, which shows Jean Arthur as the star, and doesn't mention the male lead (who we all know turned out to be William Holden, in his first movie, and Jean Arthur ended up replaced by Barbara Stanwyck). There is also a full page for a movie called "The Lost Atlantis", which has an incredible image of Atlantis sinking beneath the sea with lots of people and some dinosaurs drowning, and we know that this movie was never made, because it has a fascinating history! Columbia proposed to have this movie made as an epic similar to "The Lost World", and it was going to have a budget of $1 million, and there was even a sequel proposed called "Prince of Atlantis". Obviously, because this ad exists, we know this movie made it deep into production, but we could not find out why it was abandoned (and we found that there was supposedly going to be a comic book based on the movie, which would have predated Superman, but apparently when the movie was abandoned, so was the comic book). Note that because the interior pages of this booklet are loose, it is impossible to say whether there might have originally been more than 13 pages. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this campaign book. Because that previous example we were consigned had 13 pages, and this one only has 7, we know for sure that this one is incomplete. What about the earlier 13 page one? Because it was in nice condition, and because it had what looked like a first and last page, we believed that example was likely complete, but we can't say for sure. Also, note that the description above references movies that were in the 13-page version. The ads in this one are for Only Angels Have Wings, Blondie, There's That Woman Again, and Coast Guard. So please bid on this knowing that it only has ads for these movies, and not all of the ones in the description above. Condition: fair to good. Only 7 of the 13 pages are present (see above). What is present is in pretty good condition, but bear this in mind before bidding. Learn More about condition grades
