An Folded German Special Poster (measures 33 1/4" x 46 1/4" [84 x 117 cm]) (Learn More) 1938 Internationale Handwerks Ausstellung (literally translates to "1938 International Crafts Exhibition"), the 1938 German poster promoting a trade exhibition to be held from May to July in Berlin, Germany. Note that this poster features Otto Arpke art of a man with the symbols for many professions behind him. Note that Otto Arpke (along with Erich Stahl) created extraordinary "Expressionist" posters for 1920s German movies, including the most classic German silent horror film "Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari" (The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari). Very few posters by Arpke survive, and this poster is one of his final posters. It is partially printed with gold ink and it looks better in person than it does in our image. It has been reproduced countless times on all sorts of memorabilia! Artist: Otto Arpke Important Added Info: Note that our consignor tells us that he believes this is the only known example of this poster (and we have never auctioned it before)! The poster was folded at one time, but it has been stored rolled for a long time, and will be sent to the winning bidder rolled in a tube. Condition: good to very good. The poster has creases and tiny surface paper loss on parts of some folds, and creases and a few small tears in the borders, with some tiny dot stains in the bottom of the poster. This wonderful and rare poster can certainly be displayed and enjoyed as it is, or it would be the simplest of restoration to have the poster linenbacked. Either way, the new owner will have a wonderful poster to display on their wall! Learn More about condition grades
