An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Gene Tierney was born in Brooklyn in 1920 to a wealthy family, and she became a stage actress, but this tall (5'7" actress) who was very beautiful (and could act!) was soon "discovered" by Darryl F. Zanuck (who had a thing for beautiful young actresses). She made 9 movies in 1941 and 1942 alone. Her best two roles (and most memorable) came in 1944 and 1945, when she played the leads in Laura and in Leave Her To Heaven (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film). Her personal life was very troubled. She had many failed marriages and relationships (including Oleg Cassini, Tyrone Power Jr., John Kennedy, and others), a mentally handicapped daughter (Tierney was pregnant when exposed to rubella by a fan who broke quarantine), and suffered from depression, and she was treated with electroshock therapy. She passed away in 1991 at the age of 70. Important Added Info: Note that there is not a photo credit on the back of this still, but we know it to be from a photography session she did with Frank Powolny. Note that this still has a stamp on the back in the form of a diamond that has "TRR" running down the center. One certainly might wonder who placed this stamp there and why. The answer is that the still (and many others we are auctioning in this set of auctions) come to us from a still collector who has collected for many decades, and long ago he began stamping the back of his stills with this stamp, and "TRR" is his initials! Each of the stills is stamped lightly, and the stamp does NOT affect the front of the still. He is a VERY advanced collector, and he has consigned many wonderful stills to us! Condition: good to very good. The left blank border was very slightly trimmed (likely to fit a frame). There is a small area of discoloration in Tierney's leg at lower right. There is an odd stain with tiny bits of surface paper loss in the left of the bottom border affecting Tierney's credit.
