An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Japanese "B2" Movie Poster (measures 20 1/4" x 28 5/8" [51 x 73 cm]) (Learn More) Akibiyori (released in the U.S. as "Late Autumn"), the 1960 Yasujiro Ozu Japanese family relationship romantic melodrama (based on the novel by Ton Satomi; about a widowed mother and her adult daughter, and the mother wants to get her daughter married, and her late husband's three best friends, who are like the girl's uncles, do all they can to help find her a suitable match) starring Setsuko Hara, Yoko Tsukasa, Mariko Okada, Keiji Sada, and Miyuki Kuwano. Note that this movie has a great deal in common with director Ozu's masterpiece, "Late Spring", from 11 years earlier, except that instead of a father and a daughter, it is a mother and daughter. And a wonderful additional connection is that the incredible actress Setsuko Hara, who played the daughter in the earlier movie, plays the mother in this movie, even though she is only 11 years older! Also note that Yasujiro Ozu was a legendary Japanese writer and director from 1920s to the 1960s. He is likely the second best regarded Japanese director after Akira Kurosawa, and many of his films are considered classics, and his masterpiece is "Tokyo Story" from 1953, although he made movies from 1927 to 1962. First release Japanese posters of any kind from any of his movies are beyond rare! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare "country of origin" poster for this Japanese movie. We have only auctioned three examples of this poster in the last 16 years, and the last time was nine years ago and it sold for $675! Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It has creases around the edges and a tiny tear at top that has been repaired with tape from the back. There is a series of small creases running vertically at center, and there are some smudges and scuffs in the image of the woman in the orange/purple top at upper center (see our image). It is otherwise in generally nice condition and if one chose to have some proper restoration performed the very rare poster will display well! Learn More about condition grades
