An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More)

The Fleet's In, the 1928 Malcolm St. Clair silent Navy Naval military sailor romantic comedy ("Yoo-hoo girls The Fleet's In!"; about a sailor who meets a girl who works in a dance hall, but he mistakenly thinks she is a "working girl", so he doesn't want anything to do with her, but she wins him over) starring Clara Bow, James Hall, Jack Oakie, Bodil Rosing, Eddie Dunn, and Jean Laverty. Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. The plot of this movie was incredibly popular! It was remade in 1936 as "Lady Be Careful" starring Lew Ayres and Mary Carlisle, again in 1942 starring Dorothy Lamour and William Holden, and again in 1952, re-titled "Sailor Beware", starring Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis! Note that Clara Bow was the most famous "flapper girl" of the mid to late 1920s (she became known as "The It Girl" after the character she played based on the popular novel by Elinor Glyn). She had a major role in Wings, and was Paramount's biggest star at that time. But she had a notorious private life and seemingly "settled down" when she married cowboy star Rex Bell in 1931 (she had two children and she retired from movies), but sadly in 1949 she went into a mental institution after a failed suicide attempt (she had had psychiatric issues for quite some time) and she was released but never returned to her family, and lived alone until her death in 1965.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The card had many stains and smudges scattered throughout. It had a tear near the middle of the left border that extended into the background, and some small tears and tiny paper loss around the edges. Overall, the card was in fair to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer did not want to paint over the card, so they did what they could without repainting everything, and you can clearly see that the card had much staining, but it still displays pretty well under the circumstances. However, please look closely at our super-sized image and consider its condition before bidding on it.
