An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Smiling Lieutenant, the classic 1931 Ernst Lubitsch romantic love triangle European royalty comedy (nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; written by Samson Raphaelson; about a lieutenant in a European country who winks at his girlfriend while a royal parade is going by, and the princess thinks he is winking at her, and they end up married, but he has the problem of his girlfriend whom he loves) starring Maurice Chevalier, Claudette Colbert, Charles Ruggles (billed as "Charlie Ruggles"), Miriam Hopkins, and George Barbier NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned six lobby cards from this classic Ernst Lubitsch movie, but four were trimmed and two were in "fair to good" condition. Not only that, we have never auctioned any U.S. poster from this movie! We are currently auctioning two different lobby cards in two separate auctions. Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: fair. The card has darkened, typical of Paramount lobby cards of this period. There are many pinholes around the edges, with tiny paper loss in the top blank border, and a 1" tear beneath it, with a 2 1/2" tear in the right of the top border. There is paper loss in the bottom left corner. There are faint scuffs and stains scattered throughout the card, including in both stars' faces and figures. This is the sort of card that responds well to professional restoration. It is likely that much of the scuffs and stains can be removed through chemical means, and of course, the border defects are very "restore-able", and after restoration, the card will display well.
