Date Sold 5/3/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Undated (probably 1940s) Re-Release Theatrical Tri-Folded Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 82" [104 x 208 cm]) (Learn More) Kidnapping Gorillas, the 1934 Ben Burbridge Africa wildlife animal documentary. Note that this film was released under several titles over the years, and is surely connected to the 1930 film Ingagi (perhaps even featuring footage from that film) and the 1937 film Love Life of a Gorilla (which may feature footage from this film). Information gathered from newspapers ads indicates that Kidnapping Gorillas was re-released in the 1940s but information about the film is difficult to find, and that is not helped by the fact that apparently Love Life of a Gorilla was also released as Kidnapping Gorillas at some point. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we had never auctioned any poster from any release of this movie under this title, and now we have been consigned both a 1940s re-release three-sheet and a 1940s re-release one-sheet, both with great images! We believe that both of these posters are likely from a 1940s roadshow release of this movie, where promoters would take the movie from small town to small town, showing them on weekends in midnight shows! Also note that, as noted above, this movie has a connection to the 1930 movie "Ingagi". The poster artist for this three-sheet was almost surely inspired by the art from the Ingagi three-sheet, which has an ape in a similar pose with a topless native woman with short hair! Note that this three-sheet measures 41" x 82" [104 x 208 cm]. Also note that this three-sheet was printed in 3 sections designed to overlap. Finally, as noted above, this three-sheet was printed in three sections, each of which were tri-folded only. Since each is a one-sheet size, it makes far more sense to send the three sections rolled together in a tube than to send them tri-folded in a large flat package, so we will send it rolled in a tube, unless the buyer requests otherwise. Condition: good. The poster was printed in three sections, and each of the three sections was tri-folded only at one time. The section with the image of the gorilla had a paper snipe glued over the gorilla, and there are areas of surface paper loss scattered in the gorilla. There is paper loss between the "I" and first "L" of "GORILLAS" in the title, but it is difficult to see in our small image (see our super-sized image). It affects the right side of the "I" and much of the area to the right of it. Obviously, one could have this poster restored, but please bear in mind the above defects and the cost of restoration before bidding on it. Learn More about condition grades
