A REPRODUCTION Whiz Comics Promo (measures 7" x 10" [18 x 25 cm]) (Learn More) Captain Marvel (Shazam!) is a fictional comic book superhero that was created by Bill Parker and C.C. Beck in 1939 for Fawcett Comics. The character was first named Captain Marvel but Fawcett ceased publishing Captain Marvel-related comics in 1953, partly because of a copyright infringement suit from DC Comics (alleging that Captain Marvel was a copy of Superman). In 1972, DC Comics licensed the Marvel characters from Fawcett, and returned them to publication in a comic book called Shazam! (which was due to trademark conflicts over another character named Captain Marvel owned by Marvel Comics). The character is the basis of the 2019 live-action film with Zachary Levi in the title role. Important Added Info: Note that this originally was a promo item that was given out to viewers of the movie "Adventures of Captain Marvel" in 1941 (a sample of it was enclosed in the pressbook for that movie, and theaters could order them with their theater information overprinted on the back). However, this is not an original! Someone, probably in the 1970s, made an exact reproduction, and while it will display really well, please do not bid on it thinking it is an original, because it is a circa 1970s reproduction.
