Aubrey Smith, and Florence Bates NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that the commonly accepted release date for this classic Alfred Hitchcock movie is 1940, but this original one-sheet carries a 1939 copyright date. It is not uncommon for posters to be dated in the year prior, especially if they were released at the start of the year. Condition: good to very good. The poster had a second slightly diagonal vertical foldline 3/4" to the left of the regular one at the top, and narrowing to 1/4" at the bottom. There were creases and tears in the area between the two folds, with some horizontal tears, and some small areas of paper loss down the length of that area. There was a horizontal tear in the middle of Fontaine's nose, and some paper loss in her forehead just above her eyebrow. There were a few creases and tiny tears on the horizontal foldlines and some creases, tears, and small areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, and the person who did the restoration made a wise decision (in my opinion), to NOT make the poster look "perfect", because that would have required lots of paint down the center of the poster, and to make it truly "invisible", would have required lots of paint all over the poster. Instead, the restorer did touch up solely to the above described areas, and you can see very slight signs of restoration to those areas, but, from any normal viewing distance, it is not very noticeable or distracting at all, and the poster in no way has a "restored look". I would think most collectors would be quite happy to display this great poster on their wall! Learn More about condition grades
