SECRET OF MADAME BLANCHE SECRET OF MADAME BLANCHE glass slide OR search current auctions Auction History Result 5d169 SECRET OF MADAME BLANCHE glass slide '33 c/u of beautiful Irene Dunne & son Phillips Holmes! Date Sold 8/15/2010Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Glass Slide (measures approximately 3" x 4" [8 x 10 cm]) (Learn More) The Secret of Madame Blanche, the 1933 Charles Brabin family relationship murder romantic melodrama ("From the play 'The Lady' by Martin Brown"; about a woman who is a singer who has a wealthy boyfriend and becomes pregnant; they marry but the husband kills himself, and the husband's father convinces the singer to give up the baby to his wealthy family, and decades later, she meets her son, and he doesn't know she is his mother, and after he commits murder, she takes the blame for it so his life won't be ruined) starring Irene Dunne (in the title role as Madame Blanche), Lionel Atwill, Phillips Holmes, Una Merkel, Douglas Waltot, and Mitchell Lewis. Note that this movie borrows a huge portion of the plot from "Madame X", which was made several times itself! Also note that Phillips Holmes had made an impression in some movies in the late 1920s. In 1931, he would get the lead in the first version of "An American Tragedy", which made it seem like he would become a major star, but that didn't materialize. He had a major affair with Libby Holman, but that was certainly complicated, and when they broke up, she immediately married his brother! Oddly, years later, Holman would have another very complicated affair with Montgomery Clift, who played the same part in the remake of "An American Tragedy", retitled "A Place in the Sun". Sadly, Holmes died in a plane crash in 1942. I am very surprised no one has made a movie about his life, or a joint movie about him and Libby Holman! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). We have taken a digital photo of each that shows the general condition of the overall slide and holder, and we have also made a digital scan that shows the glass image well, but does not show the holder (except as a dark outline). Condition: good. The slide has completely lost its cardboard holder, so that only the glass remains. One could easily make an amateur cardboard holder that would serve the same purpose, and other than not having the holder, the slide is in pretty nice condition. Please do not bid on this slide unless you can accept that it does not have a cardboard holder and is solely a single pane of glass. Learn More about condition grades
