An Original Vintage Theatrical Two-Sided Forty by Sixty Movie Poster (40x60; measures 39 3/4" x 60" [101 x 152 cm]) (Learn More)

a two-sided poster advertising two movies: one from 1944 and one from 1954, so we suspect this poster is from 1954, and that the 1944 movie was being re-shown ten years later. The two films are: Garden of Eden, the 1954 Max Nosseck Florida nudist camp family relationship melodrama ("Photographed in COLOR at a REAL Nudist Park under the supervision and with the approval of AMERICAN SUNBATHING ASSOCIATION"; "Photographed by Boris Kaufman, Winner of the Academy Award for photography 'On the Waterfront'"; a standard melodrama about a mother leaving her husband and taking her young daughter with her, but they added in the mother visiting a nudist camp!) starring Jamie O'Hara (billed as "introducing Jamie O'Hara"), Mickey Knox, R.G. Armstrong, Karen Sue Trent, and John Gude. Note that nudism had been an American fad in the 1930s, but had greatly diminished by the 1950s. But a clever filmmaker saw this as an opportunity to draw in crowds who would come to see the naked people, and this was one of the first of the "nudies" that became so prevalent in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Also note that when this movie was being filmed, cinematographer Boris Kaufman had only photographed short subjects, and he wanted to shoot features, so he took this job. That same year, he shot the classic "On the Waterfront", which led to a major career in cinematography, but he will always have this early nudie feature on his resume! AND Teen Age, "Mad Moments of Youth", the 1944 Richard L'Estrange (billed as "Dick L'Estrange") juvenile delinquent bad teens crime melodrama ("Modern Youth on the Rampage!"; "A dramatic thunderbolt of modern youth!"; "Sensational-Bold-Daring!"; "Sensational! Bold! Startling!"; "The real low down actual facts on Juvenile Delinquency") starring Herbert Heyes, Sylvia Stanton, Wheeler Oakman, Fred Towns, Betty Walters, Rod Rogers, Johnny Duncan, Beverly Penn, "and MANY OTHERS". Apparently this movie "reused" large sections of the earlier similar movies "Slaves in Bondage" and "Gambling with Souls" (I am not too clear how they could bring those movies together with new footage and not have it look like a jumbled mess!).

Important Added Info: Note that we are not sure what the story on this poster is, but it appears that a local theater took a 40x60 for "Garden of Eden" and mounted it to one side of a heavy board, and then created a homemade poster on the reverse for the 1944 movie "Teen Age" (the alternate explanation is that they had a 1944 homemade poster sitting around for ten years, and they glued this 1954 poster to the back of it!). We will never know the answer, but it would be a fun poster for anyone to display, and they could alternate which side they are showing. See our images of the front and back of the poster, but realize that the buyer will receive a single poster mounted on a heavy board. Also note that this poster contains nudity, so we have placed a white bar over those areas, for those who are bothered by such images. Of course, the actual poster does not have those white bars! Finally, note that this poster cannot be folded or rolled in any way, so it must be sent in a VERY large flat package that would be expensive to send.

We will pack this poster between four super heavy 42" x 62" boards that we have purchased for $5 each, meaning that the cost of packaging this poster is $20 (because of the expense of the large cardboard). VERY IMPORTANT! This poster will likely cost around $100 total to send within the U.S. via ground UPS (but of course, we will only charge the actual cost of shipping) plus the above stated $20 for the packaging materials (we are also auctioning similar size posters that could be packed together with this one, and if so, the shipping per poster will come down drastically). Please bear this shipping cost in mind before placing a bid on this poster (and it would surely cost hundreds of dollars to send it out of the United States, so we ask that no one bid on this poster unless they can accept delivery of it within the U.S.).

Condition: fair. Both posters are mounted to the front and back of a heavy board. Both have many defects within the image. There is green tape around the edges that is coming loose. Please do not bid on this poster unless you have read the above and looked closely at our super-sized images.
