An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style B One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Great Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok, the 1938 Mack V. Wright & Sam Nelson Native American Indian cowboy western serial ("A Columbia Serial"; "A Columbia Chapter Play"; "Adventure flames out of the golden West!"; "Look out... Injun!"; "Six-guns blaze new thrill trails in the winning of the West!") starring William 'Wild Bill' Elliott (billed as "Gordon Elliot"; in the title role as Wild Bill Hickok), Monte Blue, Carole Wayne, Frankie Darro, Roscoe Ates, Chief Thunder Cloud, Ray Mala (billed as "Mala"), Frank Lackteen, Kermit Maynard, Dickie Jones, and Art Mix. Note that this serial was such a success, that Elliott portrayed Hickok in 12 other films, and even when he was not playing Hickok, his characters were often called "Wild Bill" (such as Wild Bill Saunders & Wild Bill Boone). Eventually, Elliot became so associated with "Wild Bill", that he was cast as a character named "Wild Bill Elliott" in the 1943 film Calling Wild Bill Elliott. In all, he essentially played a character of himself in over 30 films, often with both his credit and role listed as "Wild Bill Elliott"! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1938 movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a single one-sheet and two lobby cards from this movie until we received this poster! Also note that this poster has excellent art, but it is certainly extremely "politically incorrect"! Wild Bill is shouting "Look out... Injun!", and thankfully, you would never see that on a modern day movie poster! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and some tiny tears and tiny bits of paper loss scattered down the vertical fold, and a lesser amount of wear on the horizontal folds. It had a few small areas of paper loss in the left and right blank borders. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but the restorer did not address the paper loss in the blank borders, likely rightfully assuming it will not show when the poster is framed.
