An Original Vintage Theatrical 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Edgar Bergen was an actor and ventriloquist from the 1930s to the 1970s. He is best remembered as the creator of ventriloquist dummy, Charlie McCarthy. Bergen and Charlie were so popular that they appeared regularly on the radio, which does not sound like a possible venue for the duo, but the joy of listening to them was in their personalities much more so than Bergen's skill as a ventriloquist, and in many of their appearances, Charlie McCarthy is treated as a real mischievous human boy, and not a ventriloquist's dummy. Edgar Bergen and Charlie appear most famously in You Can't Cheat an Honest Man, Charlie McCarthy Detective, and Pure Feud AND June Allyson (born Eleanor Geisman) was a very likable actress from the 1940s to the 1980s. She was cast over and over as the "good wife", and she tried to break out of that mold playing an incredibly unsympathetic wife in "The Shrike", but the movie failed, and she returned to her good wife roles! Some of her movies include: The Glenn Miller Story, The Three Musketeers, and Executive Suite. She was the daughter of an alcoholic and she was married for a long time to actor Dick Powell, who also was an alcoholic, and sadly, after his death, she became an alcoholic, which caused a custody battle for her children with her own mother. Later in life, she became well remembered for her TV commercials for Depends! She passed away in 2006. Important Added Info: Note that this still measures 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm].
