eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result SNAFU B 1sheet Date Sold 4/24/2001Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Style B One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh) (Learn More) Snafu, the 1945 Jack Moss romantic comedy ("The FIVE-LETTER WORD that started BROADWAY howling!"; "The hilarious Broadway play... Now on the Screen!"; "Everything was SNAFU on Broadway, Now everything's SNAFU on the screen!"; "Screwy Novel Amazing Fun-packed, Uproarious"; "It couldn't be funnier that the Broadway play... But it is!") starring Robert Benchley, Barbara Jo Allen (billed as "Vera Vague"), Conrad Janis, Nanette Parks, Janis Wilson, Jimmy Lloyd, and Enid Markey (best remembered as the screen's first Jane in "Tarzan"). Note that "S.N.A.F.U." was an acronym coined by servicemen during World War II due to constant supply shortages. It stood for "situation normal, all f***ed up" (sometimes "cleaned up" to be "situation normal, all fouled up"). It went into wide usage in the U.S. when the servicemen returned, so naturally, the movie would be named after it, but of course, they couldn't explain its meaning on the movie posters!
