Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Charlie Chan at the Olympics, the 1937 H. Bruce Humberstone Asian detective Berlin Germany sports crime mystery thriller ("Murderous spies invade Olympic games!"; "A new world's record for thrills ....even for Chan!"; "Based on the character 'Charlie Chan' created by Earl Derr Biggers") starring Warner Oland (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Katherine DeMille, Pauline Moore, Allan 'Rocky' Lane, Keye Luke (as Lee Chan), C. Henry Gordon, Jonathan Hale, and Morgan Wallace. Note that the events in this movie take place at the infamous 1936 Berlin Olympics, where Adolf Hitler presided over the games, hoping they would prove Germany's Aryan superiority, but of course, exactly the reverse occurred! Also note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: very good to fine. The card originally had all of its blank borders trimmed. Someone took another lobby card from the same period and carefully cut out the area the exact size of the trimmed card and merged the two. Strangly, they took a card that had pinholes and stains. You can still see the outline of where the trimmed card was, but you have to look for it, and the card looks like a complete card. The image area of the card is in very good to fine condition, with no visible defects, except for extremely minor scuff marks in the bottom half of the card which you can only see when you turn to card to the light.
