An Original Vintage Theatrical 8 1/8" x 10 1/8" (8x10) Movie Still (Learn More) Son of the Gods, the 1930 Frank Lloyd interracial romance romantic melodrama ("Color Scenes Photographed by Technicolor Process"; "From the story by Rex Beach"; a really wacky story of a Chinese-American man, who is the son of a highly respected New York multi-millionaire, who wants to "pass as white", and he somewhat gets accepted into white society, but when he falls in love with a beautiful rich white girl from San Francisco, who tells him that she has no prejudice of any kind, so he tells her the truth about himself, and she is shocked, and storms off, and returns with a riding crop and flogs him in public, calling him a "filthy Chinaman"!; later on, she apologizes, and says she can bear to be with him in spite of his race [perhaps his being super rich, handsome, and not looking at all Asian has something to do with that!], but there is a surprise ending where he finds out he was deceived and that he ISN'T Chinese-American at all, and that makes her SO much happier, because he really is "white"!) starring Richard Barthelmess, Constance Bennett, Dorothy Mathews, Barbara Leonard, Anders Randolf, E. Alyn Warren, and Claude King. Note that this movie included a color sequence, which was a 2-strip Technicolor sequence, running 442 feet, and consisting of a flashback of the star remembering what Chinatown was when he was a child. It certainly was one of the earliest Technicolor scenes in a major Hollywood production! Unfortunately, while that scene survives, it only survives in a black and white version.
