An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) Smashing the Vice Trust, the 1937 Melville Shyer exploitation melodrama (apparently, a pseudo-documentary expose of the vice business, although it is likely the viewers of this movie had less than noble interests in watching it!) starring Willy Castello, Veola Vonn, Augusta Anderson, John Belmont, and Selmer Jackson. Note that this movie was re-edited by director Shyer into "Confessions of a Vice Baron" in 1943. Melville Shyer spent many years in Hollywood working as an assistant director for 143 mostly low-budget movies between 1930 and 1962, and in the 1930s and 1940s, he directed seven low-budget exploitation movies like this one. His son, Charles Shyer, has had major success as a Hollywood director, directing such movies as The Parent Trap, Father of the Bride, and Baby Boom! If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we, and everyone else who views this poster, is certainly intrigued by the woman contortionist at top left who is wearing a strange uniform and is in a very unusual pose! If anyone knows more about how this relates to this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that this poster needs to be shipped in a tube that measures between 42" and 44" long. Therefore the shipping for this poster will be more than that for a poster that ships in a tube 32" or shorter, and possibly much more. Please bear this added shipping expense in mind before bidding on this poster. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at some crossfolds and some tiny bits of paper loss on parts of some folds. It had a few other tiny bits of paper loss scattered in the image, including a tiny bit in the chin of the girl at upper left. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Any restorer could touch up the tiny areas of paper loss without re-backing the poster. Learn More about condition grades
