An Autographed Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Hedy Lamarr, surely one of the most beautiful women ever, was born in 1914 (or was it 1913?). She was born Hedwig Kiesler in Vienna Austria, and she appeared in movies in Germany and Czechoslovakia as a teen. In 1933, she stunned the world when she appeared in the Czechoslovakian movie Ekstase (released internationally as Ecstasy) because she both appeared completely nude and in sex scenes! Naturally that caught the eye of Hollywood, and she was signed by MGM and renamed, although her next movie was not for five years later. She held on to her beauty quite well throughout the 1940s (nicknamed "The Most Beautiful Woman in Films"), and her biggest hit came at the end of that decade, playing Delilah to Victor Mature's Samson. She had a complicated private life! She is credited with major scientific inventions, and she had run-ins with the law for shoplifting. In 1974 Mel Brooks named one of the lead characters in Blazing Saddles "Hedley Lamarr", and she sued him over that! She is also best remembered for her roles in Show Business at War, The Love Goddesses, and H.M. Pulham, Esq. She passed away in 2000 at the age of 85. Important Added Info: Note that this still has been personally autographed (signed) by Hedy Lamarr! Note that this autographed 8x10 was consigned to us by a former theater owner. He owned two different major theaters in Louisiana from the 1940s through the 1970s, and he sometimes had premieres of movies at his theaters, at which time some of the celebrities connected to the movies would appear in person (this was often done in the 1950s and 1960s). When celebrities came to his theater, he would have them autograph 8x10 stills for him in person, and that got him started collecting signed stills, so at some point in the 1950s, he began requesting the studios to have them send him stills signed by the stars of movies he had recently shown at his theater when he was holding a special event or having the anniversary of his theater's opening! Over the next decade, he collected 91 signed stills that were sent to him by the studios through the mail, as well as several dozen that he obtained in person. We auctioned all 91 of those signed stills in our previous auctions, and now we are re-auctioning one of the 91 stills that was reconsigned to us. We know for certain that this still was received directly from the studio, but we can't say for certain if the still was signed by Hedy Lamarr, or if it was signed by a secretary. But since the original consignor owned a major theater, and since many of his stills were personalized to him (or to his theater), we would think it likely that this still has a genuine signature that is NOT secretarial. But we suggest that anyone bidding on this still compare the signature to other examples of Miss Lamarr's signature, so they can best determine if she personally signed it. Please do this research before bidding. Condition: good. The still has slightly changed to a sepia color. There are two faint horizontal creases running across the image (mostly only noticeable when the still is tilted to the light). There are some faint smudges around the edges of the image.
