An Original Vintage Magazine (measures 8 1/2" x 11 1/2" [22 x 29 cm]) (Learn More) Film Fun was a monthly magazine that started in July 1915, and it was a pretty traditional movie fan magazine with a full-color cover of a leading star, and lots of heavily illustrated articles inside, just like all the other movie fan magazines of its time, except that most issues we have seen were printed on a high quality paper stock unlike the pulp paper used by most of its competitors. Somewhere around 1922 or 1923, it started having "racy" covers (perhaps because they discovered that covers by legendary pin-up artist Enoch Bolles outsold any of their "regular" covers), and by the early 1930s (at the latest), it had evolved into a "men's" magazine. Each of those issues had hundreds of sexy fully dressed images of movie actresses along with very scantily clad images of would-be actresses, hoping to get noticed and get to their big break. This magazine also had some somewhat risque jokes and stories! It ceased publication in 1942 (we wouldn't think the interest in such magazines would have dwindled during World War II, so there was likely some other reason). If anyone knows more about this magazine, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Important Added Info: Note that this is one of twelve issues we are currently auctioning in twelve separate auctions. They comprise all of the twelve monthly issues from 1937. They were originally in a bound volume that was found in the files of the Dell Publishing Company, who published this magazine. Each of the magazines had three punch holes placed near the spine of all the pages and the paper on the spine was lost during the binding. But other than these two defects, the magazines are in really nice condition, far better than the vast majority of similar issues of this magazine from the 1930s. This is a rare opportunity to acquire any or all of these twelve issues (and we are currently also auctioning two other issues of this magazine, but they did not come from this bound volume). Note that while we think this is Enoch Bolles art, it is not signed, and we are simply guessing. If anyone knows for sure, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: good to very good. As noted above, this issue has three punch holes at the spine and has most of the paper missing from the spine edge of the magazine. There is some light staining down the edge of the spine. But otherwise, the magazine is in generally nice condition. We leave it to bidders to decide how important the above defects are as compared to the positive aspects of the condition of the magazine otherwise (see our images). Learn More about condition grades
