An Undated (surely from 1919, 1920, or 1921; see below) Re-Release Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Fireman, the 1916 Charles Chaplin silent firefighter romantic comedy short (about a man whose house is on fire, and he doesn't want the firemen to put it out, so that he can collect the insurance money, but then when he discovers his daughter is upstairs, he alerts inept fireman Charlie Chaplin, who saves the day) starring Charlie Chaplin (Charles Chaplin), Edna Purviance, Lloyd Bacon, Eric Campbell, Leo White, Albert Austin, and John Rand NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned four 1922 re-release lobby cards and a few 1960s re-release stills from this movie (and NO other movie paper of any kind) until we received this early re-release one-sheet! Not only that, but ANY Charlie Chaplin one-sheets from the 1910s (either from the first release, or from the first re-release) are beyond rare. We have only auctioned a handful of those one-sheets from ANY of Chaplin's 1910s comedy shorts! Note that in 1919, the Clark-Cornelius Corporation bought the rights to the early Charlie Chaplin shorts, and began re-releasing them. In 1922, they released them for the last time, and in that year, they changed their name to C.C. Pictures. Some of the re-release paper from this company has the original release date on it, but they definitely date from between 1919 and 1921 if they say "Clark-Cornelius Corporation" or from 1922 if they say "C.C. Pictures". Since this poster DOES say "Clark-Cornelius" and NOT "C.C. Pictures", it is absolutely from either 1919, 1920, or 1921! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had small paper loss at the middle crossfold, affecting the "rne" of "Cornelius" and the background above it. It had very minor wear on all the folds, with one 1/2" vertical tear in the left of the bottom fold. It had some pinholes, tears, and small paper loss in the white borders. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
