An Original Vintage Linenbacked World War II Poster (measures 28 1/4" x 42" [72 x 107 cm]) (Learn More) Naval Officer, the 1942 U.S. World War II (WWII) Naval recruitment poster ("Freshman! Sophomores!"; "Now you can stay in college and become a Naval Officer"; "See your Dean or nearest Navy recruiting station for full details") encouraging enlistment in the Navy and featuring art of a Navy officer with binoculars along with Naval fighter planes and sailors firing anti-aircraft cannons by McClelland Barclay USNR (Barclay is best remembered as a pin-up artist, but he did recruiting posters for both World War I and World War II, and sadly, he was in the Naval Reserve and on a torpedoed ship in 1942, and was killed). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: McClelland Barclay USNR Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had minor wear on the foldlines. It had tears in the top border and creases and smudges in the top and bottom borders, with a lesser amount in the left and right borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above, but they are really not very distracting (and a talented restorer could touch them up without re-backing the poster).
