An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More)

The Younger Generation, the 1929 Frank Capra (billed as "Frank R. Capra") social-climbing family relationship Jewish romantic melodrama ("from the stage play 'It Is To Laugh' by Fannie Hurst"; about a poor Jewish man in New York City who becomes wealthy, and he moves with his parents to a Fifth Avenue apartment, but when his rich girlfriend's parents come to visit, he is embarrassed by his parents, and he introduces them as his servants, but after many trials and tribulations, he reconciles with his parents as his father is dying) starring Jean Hersholt, Ricardo Cortez, Lina Basquette, Rex Lease, Rosa Rosanova, and Syd Crossley. Note that the plot of this movie has a lot in common with the plot of "The Jazz Singer", and playwright Fannie Hurst reused a good chunk of this plot three years later in "Symphony of Six Million", also with Cortez in the lead role. Note that Jean Hersholt was a bigger star than Ricardo Cortez, so he was billed over him on the poster, but Cortez was the true star of the movie. Since he himself was Jewish (although he had been passed off by Paramount as Hispanic, so that he could be another Valentino!), this movie no doubt hit very close to home with him! Finally, note that the central Jewish family of the movie is named "Goldfish". This may have been a "jab" at Sam Goldwyn, because that was his name prior to his changing it!

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.

Condition: good. The card had pinholes, tears, and some paper loss around the edges. Many years ago, someone put tape on the back of those areas and replaced the missing paper with pieces from another card (without backing the card), and then performed slight restoration. Some of the restoration paint has aged badly and is very noticeable, but it is primarily in the borders. One could frame this as is, or certainly, additional restoration could be performed.
