An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Forbidden Planet, the classic 1956 Fred McLeod Wilcox science fiction (sci-fi) outer space robot monster thriller ("Amazing!"; "In Cinemascope and Color"; "Based on the story by Irving Block & Allen Adler"; very loosely adapted from William Shakespeare's "The Tempest"; about space men who journey to a distant planet, and they find that all the members of the original expedition have died, except for one man and his daughter, and they have discovered the secrets of a long lost civilization called "The Krell", which dwarfs anything humans have ever discovered, but there is a very dark side to those secrets that is soon revealed) starring Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis, Leslie Nielsen, Warren Stevens, Jack Kelly, Richard Anderson, Earl Holliman (as the cook, who was put in the movie for comic relief), Robby the Robot (billed as "Introducing Robby the Robot"), James Drury, and Frankie Darro (who was inside the robot suit until he was fired early in the production for showing up inebriated and almost damaging the expensive prop). Note that after Robby the Robot appeared in this movie, he had another movie role in "The Invisible Boy", and then he appeared in a slightly modified version as the robot in TV's "Lost in Space". On November 21, 2017, the original "Robby the Robot" was auctioned, and it sold for $5.375 million! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is one of the two most desired 1950s horror/sci-fi posters (the other is "The Day the Earth Stood Still"). The reason is simple! The movie itself is really excellent, and the poster has a great image. This did not happen very often with great movies (often they have disappointing images on their one-sheets, and sometimes the best one-sheet images are for disappointing movies). This is that rare case where the poster has it all. The last example of this poster we auctioned was two years ago, and that one was linenbacked, and it auctioned for $9,000! The example we are currently auctioning is not backed, and has not been restored. Our consignor purchased it decades ago from one of the early great dealer/collectors of the hobby, Crowell Beech, from his "Gone Hollywood" business, and he has kept it all these years until he has now consigned it to us! Condition: very good. The poster was folded an extra time, resulting in two additional vertical folds, 4" from the left border and 5" from the right border. There is a slight extra vertical fold just above the right half of the top horizontal fold. There are two extremely tiny tears in the left of the top fold. It has small diagonal creases surrounding the middle crossfold. It has some minor creases along the folds. It has a tiny stain in the center of the top blank border and a slightly larger tiny stain in the center of the bottom blank border. It has creases and faint staining in the left of the top of the "N" of "FORBIDDEN" in the title. It has the tiniest of tears in the center of the bottom blank border and some faint creases and very faint rippling scattered throughout the poster. I go into such detail on the defects, because of the value of the poster, but almost all of the defects are truly minor. The colors of the poster are bright, and I would think many collectors would prefer to leave the poster unrestored and display it as it is. But certainly, if one wanted to have it backed, it would be a pretty simple linenbacking, and afterwards, the poster will look fantastic, and it will truly have had very little paint restoration anywhere in it. Either way, the buyer of this poster will have one of the most desired one-sheets there is to display on their wall! Learn More about condition grades
