At age 7, he began dance lessons at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis, Missouri. Later, while under contract to MGM, he went to school with Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney, and it was Judy Garland who offered him a part in The Wizard of Oz. Soon after, he left show business, realizing that his height would prevent him from having any long-term success as an actor. However, he later appeared in multiple Wizard of Oz television specials. He passed away in 2009 at the age of 89. Important Added Info: Note that this letter has been personally autographed (signed) by Mickey Carroll! Our consignor is a longtime collector who obtained this signed item through correspondence with Mr. Carroll in 1989. He was asking Mr. Carroll for an autographed picture for a charity auction, and Mr. Carroll kindly sent one photo for him and several other items for the auction.
