An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Cluny Brown, the 1946 Ernst Lubitsch romantic comedy ("The stars you've wanted... In each other's arms!"; "Based on the novel by Margery Sharp"; about a young English girl who wants to be a plumber, but her family has her work for a wealthy English family, and she has all kinds of adventures, and romance too!) starring Charles Boyer, Jennifer Jones (in the title role as Cluny Brown), Peter Lawford, Helen Walker, Reginald Gardiner, Reginald Owen, C. Aubrey Smith (billed as "Sir C. Aubrey Smith"), Richard Haydn, Margaret Bannerman, Sara Allgood, Ernest Cossart, Florence Bates, and Una O'Connor. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good. This poster has been linenbacked, but it was not very well done, either because the restorer did not do a very good job, or because the years since it has been linenbacked have not been kind to the poster. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. Generally, it had a circular stain at the top crossfold and some tiny paper loss and a few stains on parts of some foldlines, and the borders were pretty tattered. The poster was not that well backed, because you can see signs of the above general defects and the restoration of the defects (in some cases, as should be immediately evident in our image, the linenbacker did no restoration to some of the defects). I would think few collectors would want to display it as it is, without someone performing some additional restoration. Certainly, a talented restorer could perform additional restoration (either with or without re-backing the poster), but it might be fairly expensive to have this done, so bear that in mind before you place a bid.
