eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 8g035 HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES German program '29 Carlyle Blackwell as Sherlock Holmes! Date Sold 1/6/2011Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage German Film Program (measures 9" x 12" [23 x 30 cm]; 8 pages) (Learn More) Der Hund von Baskerville (released in English-speaking countries as "The Hound of the Baskervilles"), the 1929 Richard Oswald German silent detective mystery crime horror thriller (based on the famous novel by Arthur Conan Doyle) starring Alexander Murski, Livio Pavanelli, Betty Bird, Fritz Rasp, Carlyle Blackwell (as Sherlock Holmes), and George Seroff (as Dr. Watson). Note that this was a silent film, one of the last ones, and Carlyle Blackwell has the distinction of being the final "silent" Sherlock Holmes. He was a major U.S. star in the 1910s, and he went to England in 1921, and stayed the rest of the decade there, making English movies, but also making one French movie, and this one German movie (it was much easier in the silent era for actors to make a movie in another language, since they didn't need to actually speak it!). Sadly, at the present time, the film is believed to be lost, although there have been two times when people claimed to find prints in non-U.S. archives, but we don't believe those prints ever materialized. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" item for this German movie! Also note that we have pictured the front cover, the back cover, and an interior 2-page spread from this program book. Condition: very good. Learn More about condition grades
