An Undated (probably late 1930s) Re-release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Czechoslovakian Movie Poster (measures 11 3/4" x 37 1/2" [30 x 95 cm]) (Learn More) The Son of the Sheik, the 1926 George Fitzmaurice Arabian silent desert romantic adventure melodrama sequel ("Hail now! 'The Son of the Sheik'"; "A sequel to 'The Sheik'"; "From the novel by E.M. Hull - Adapted to the screen by Frances Marion"; the son has his way with a dancing girl, and her father captures him and tortures him as payback) starring Rudolph Valentino (in a dual title role as both Sheik Ahmed Ben Hassan and Ahmed, the Sheik's son; in his final movie role!), Vilma Banky (as Yasmin), George Fawcett, Montagu Love, and Karl Dane. Note that this movie was a sequel to Valentino's wildly successful 1920 "The Sheik". Unfortunately, he passed away when filming was completed, and it was not released until after his death. This classic movie received a major re-release in the U.S. in 1938, when it was a giant hit, and it was released in at least a fair number of European countries at that time. We can't say for certain if this poster is from 1926 or the late 1930s (when those European re-releases occurred), but we think it is much more likely a 1930s poster, so we are calling it a 1930s re-release (and the text at the bottom translates to "starring Rudolfo Valentino the most famous lover of the age, darling of women around the world, and the unforgettable Vilma Banky in their best film", which also seems to point toward a re-release). If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good.
