Johnny Mathis is a black African American singer from 1956 to the present. In 1982, Mathis revealed he was gay in a radio interview, but then received death threats and talked no more about it for decades. Some of his hits include Wonderful! Wonderful!, It's Not For Me to Say, Chances Are, Misty, Venus, and When Sunny Gets Blue. As of 2021, he is still alive at the age of 85!
