An Undated (probably 1940s) Re-Release Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Blake of Scotland Yard, the 1937 Robert F. Hill (billed as "Bob Hill") London England fantasy science fiction (sci-fi) crime detective mystery adventure serial ("A Victory Serial in 15 Thrilling Episodes"; "15 episodes of reckless action, spectacular thrills, baffling mystery"; about Sir James Blake, a detective who is assisted by Dr. Jerry Sheehan, and together they battle a mysterious villain called "The Scorpion" over possession of a "death ray" machine; gee, I wonder where they got the idea of an English detective with a doctor for an assistant!) starring Ralph Byrd (as Dr. Jerry Sheehan), Herbert Rawlinson (in the title role as Sir James Blake), Joan Barclay, Lloyd Hughes (as Dr. Marshall, "The Scorpion"), Dickie Jones, and Nick Stuart

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this poster has artwork, and the first release chapter 1 poster has a similar image but is photographic, and the printing at the bottom of the image is different on the two posters. Based on that and the litho number (which is far different on this poster from the other one, and almost certainly dates to the mid 1940s), we believe this poster to be from an undated (probably mid 1940s) re-release of the entire serial. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this one-sheet, and that was 19 years ago, when it sold for $600! Also note that this poster has a great artwork image of the villain from this serial, The Scorpion. I wonder if he looked that convincing in the movie himself!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and some small tears and tiny paper loss on parts of some folds, with some extra creases along parts of some folds. It had a diagonal tear in the blue area to the left of the "Y" of "YARD", and it had some writing on the back that slightly bled through to the front in a few areas. It had a few small stains and darkening in the borders. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
