Letters From Iwo Jima, the 2006 Clint Eastwood (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) World War II (WWII) Japanese soldier island invasion military historical melodrama (nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) ("From the director of 'Flags of Our Fathers' comes the completion of the Iwo Jima Saga") starring Ken Watanabe, Kazunari Ninomiya, Tsuyoshi Ihara, Ryo Kase, and Shido Nakamura. Note that Clint Eastwood also made an entirely separate movie, "Flags of Our Fathers" (covering the same material, but from the U.S. perspective!), at the same time that he made this movie, and both movies were released in the same year!
