An Original Vintage Theatrical 7 1/4" x 9 3/4" Movie Still (Learn More)

They Knew What They Wanted, the 1940 Garson Kanin Napa Valley romantic love triangle mistaken identity melodrama ("Carole Lombard is brilliant Charles Laughton is amazing"; "You have seen great motion pictures... We believe you have not seen a greater motion picture than this!"; "From the Pulitzer Prize play by Sidney Howard"; about a rich but unattractive farmer who starts a romance through the mail with a beautiful woman, and he sends a picture of a handsome man to her telling her that it is him!) starring Carole Lombard, Charles Laughton, William Gargan (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Frank Fay, Karl Malden, and Harry Carey Sr.

Important Added Info: Note that a paper snipe was glued to the back of the still, and then folded over to the front. This was done rather than gluing the snipe to the back, so that the snipe could be unfolded and the still could be displayed with the snipe unfolded, which would let moviegoers read the information on the snipe in the lobby (and of course, the snipe would be folded backwards, so it would not show). This was done with many stills of the 1930s, but often, the snipes are either partially or completely lost, because it is easier for them to be torn off. UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED, THE SNIPE DOES NOT HAVE ANY EFFECT ON THE FRONT OF THE STILL! The still measures 7 1/4" x 9 3/4", but it does not appear to be trimmed. Note that there is a stamp on the back of the still (from the studio that distributed it).
