Date Sold 5/3/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Isle of Escape, the 1930 Howard Bretherton South Seas tropical island romantic love triangle melodrama ("Based on the play by G.C. Dixon"; about a South Seas island where a brutal man runs the island together with the woman he is forced into marriage to her; a man is shipwrecked on the island, and causes trouble, but he leaves, and goes to another island, where he meets a beautiful native girl, but all the principals come together for a rousing climax where one of the principals nobly gives their life) starring Monte Blue, Betty Compson, Myrna Loy (in a somewhat secondary part as the native girl), Noah Beery Sr., Duke Kahanamoku (who was a legendary Hawaiian five-time Olympic medalist and actor who is credited with popularizing the sport of surfing), and Nina Quartero. Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist (only a 40 second fragment). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a window card, a lobby card, and a still (and NO other movie paper) from this movie until we received this insert! Note that this poster could conceivably be rolled in a tube, but because it is old and somewhat fragile, we intend to send it in a large flat package, and will only send it rolled if the new owner accepts responsibility if it is damaged from being rolled. Please bear this in mind before placing your bid on this rare poster. Condition: good to very good. The poster was folded across the middle only. It has diagonal creases at the right end of that fold and smudges and some stains around the edges of the poster, extending into the image background. It had paper loss in the upper left border and tiny paper loss in the right corners, and someone taped small pieces of paper to the back of those areas. There are also a few tears in the borders and a pinhole in the center of the top border. Other than the above, the image area is in pretty nice condition, with bright colors, and of course, there is only one fold. I would think that many people could display this extremely rare poster as it is, or certainly, one could choose to have restoration performed. Learn More about condition grades
