Date Sold 8/30/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 25" x 36" [64 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Behind the Green Door (released in Japan as "Green Door"), the 1972 Artie Mitchell & Jim Mitchell (billed as "The Mitchell Brothers") sexploitation movie ("The all-American girl") starring Marilyn Chambers, George S. MacDonald, Johnny Keyes, Lisa Grant, Yank Levine, and Ben Davidson (a pro football player who has an amusing non-sex cameo as an intimidating bouncer, and the posters bill him as "Special Guest Appearance by a famous all-star football professional [you'll recognize him]"). Note that Marilyn Chambers had appeared in Wes Craven's "Together" the year before, and the Mitchell Brothers offered her a non-sex role in this movie, but then they talked her into taking the lead role, paying her what was at the time the highest salary a performer in such a movie ever received. Even though she is the "lead" of the movie, her character says not a single word of dialog! Soon after this movie was released, it was revealed that star Marilyn Chambers had formerly been an "Ivory" soap model, which created quite a media sensation, and made the movie one of the most successful sexploitation movies of all time! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster measures 25" x 36" [64 x 91 cm]. Because of its origin coming straight from the Mitchell Brothers Theatre (see below), we feel certain it is an authentic poster from 1972, but the question exists, why does this poster measure 25x36, whereas all previous examples of this poster measure 24x36? What makes it even odder is that we previously auctioned another example from the Mitchell Brothers Theatre, and THAT one measured 24x36! We wonder if perhaps this poster isn't a test poster, because we don't really see another explanation. The only difference between this poster and the 24x36 poster is that it has extra white border on the left and right (1/2" on each side). Please bear in mind that this poster measures 1" wider before bidding on it (and read what we wrote above carefully before bidding. Note that this poster has a VERY interesting origin! It comes directly from the Mitchell Brothers Theatre in San Francisco. One of the brothers had a fine art collection and it was sold to a dealer, and in that collection were some of the posters from their own movies, and that dealer had these posters for many years and recently came across them and consigned them to eMoviePoster.com. There were 16 posters that were auctioned in a recent set of folded one sheet auctions, and the results were excellent, and our consignor searched and found six more posters, which we are auctioning in this set of auctions. These posters are FAR more rare than other posters from sexploitation movies, because they did not have the same national distribution. Condition: good to very good. The poster was folded in the usual way, but it is possible that it was folded by hand and there are some minor creases along the folds. There is a thin strip of clear tape on the back of the top border and there are pairs of staple holes in the borders with a few tiny tears. Learn More about condition grades
