Date Sold 6/11/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked German Movie Poster (measures 36" x 49 1/4" [91 x 125 cm]) (Learn More) Das Milliardentestament (literally translates to "The Testament of Billions"), the 1920 Franz Seitz German silent melodrama starring Josef Berger, Lili Dominici, Andre Douglas, Carla Ferra, Fritz Kampers, and Fred Stranz. Oddly, we could not find even the slightest plot summary for this movie, even though there is a full cast list and other technical information. Based on the only poster we have seen, a wonderful German poster with incredible Karv expressionist art (which may show Jewish rabbis on a temple platform with menorahs and an angry mob in front of them, and a giant evil winking face behind them, so it might be a German movie about anti-Semitism in 1920, but maybe that is just wishful thinking!). In any case, it seems to be a movie worth knowing more about! If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Artist: Karv Important Added Info: As noted above, this poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this German movie, is the only poster we have ever seen from this German movie! Note that this poster ships in a very long tube (at least 33" long, but possibly 50" long or more). Therefore the shipping for this poster will be more than that for a poster that ships in a tube 32" or shorter, and possibly much more. Please bear this added shipping expense in mind before bidding on this poster. You can tell how long of a tube this poster needs to ship in by looking at the shorter dimension of its length and width and then adding 4" to that (so a 47" x 63" poster will need to ship in a 51" long tube). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had many creases and tears around the edges of the upper part, and a much lesser amount in the lower part. There were also tears and small areas of paper loss along many of the folds in the upper part of the poster and some creases, tears, scuffs, and tiny paper loss in parts that were not in the folds in the upper part of the poster. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. A restorer backed the poster in a somewhat "minimalist" fashion, performing some restoration, but leaving other areas as they were, so as to not give the poster a heavily restored look, and so as to not need to put lots of paint on the poster. The poster will display pretty well from a reasonable viewing distance, but you can clearly see signs of the defects and the restoration, especially when you look at it very close up. One would prefer to have a better condition example of this poster, but it might take a lifetime to find, since we have never auctioned another one, and may never auction another one again!
