An Original Vintage Folded Special Movie Poster (measures 15 3/4" x 23 3/4" [40 x 60 cm]) (Learn More) Exodus, the classic 1961 Otto Preminger Israeli Independence epic ("Based on the novel by Leon Uris"; "Screenplay by Dalton Trumbo"; about the drive immediately after World War II by Jews worldwide to create an independent state of Israel that would accept any Jews wishing to go there, especially WWII refugees, and how they achieved that despite strong opposition from the British) starring Paul Newman (as Ari Ben Canaan), Eva Marie Saint (as Kitty Fremont), Ralph Richardson (as General Sutherland), Peter Lawford (as Major Caldwell), Lee J. Cobb (as Barak Ben Canaan), Sal Mineo (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Dov Landau), John Derek (as Taha), Hugh Griffith (as Mandria), Gregory Ratoff (as Lakavitch), Felix Aylmer (as Dr. Lieberman), David Opatoshu (as Akiva Ben Canaan), Jill Haworth (in her film debut!; as Karen Johansson), Marius Goring, Alexandra Stewart (as Jordana Ben Canaan), Michael Wager, Martin Benson, Paul Stevens, Betty Walker, Martin Miller, Victor Maddern, George Maharis, John Crawford, and Samuel Segal NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Saul Bass Important Added Info: Note that Saul Bass did artwork for the poster campaign for this movie, which is not the same on each poster. The pressbook shows a "style Z" 40x60 that has great different art of a hand emerging from the flames surrounding the title (this is similar to the silhouette Saul Bass art that was used on other posters, but not the same). We have never auctioned a style Z 40x60, and we have not seen one at other auctions. This special poster measures 16" x 24", and has the same image as that never seen 40x60. It is printed on a glossy paper stock and has a litho number of "01-450234-209" printed in the lower left, and an MGM copyright printed in the lower right. We don't know for what purpose this special poster was created (it may have been a test poster of some sort). But it is the only printed poster we have auctioned that has this great different Saul Bass art! Note that in Part III of this Major Auction, we have a collection of 14 very rare Saul Bass related items. This item is from that same collection, but we are putting it in this Part IV, because while it was once folded, it has been laying flat, which has lessened the folds, so we would prefer to send it rolled in a tube (although we can re-fold it, if the new owner desires). Condition: very good. The poster was folded once in each direction. There are some light creases in the horizontal fold and some faint scuffs in the top center of the poster (see our image).
