Date Sold 12/11/2008Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22") (Learn More) Jesse James, the 1927 Lloyd Ingraham silent cowboy western ("Story by Frank M. Clifton", the pseudonym used by Frances Marion!) starring Fred Thomson (in the title role as Jesse James), Nora Lane, Montagu Love, Mary Carr, James Pierce (as Frank James), and Harry Woods (as Bob Ford). Note that this was the first real film biography of this most notorious outlaw (James' son had appeared in two movies as "Jesse James Jr." in 1921, but they were not biographies). The next time this outlaw would appear on screen would be in 1939, where Tyrone Power Jr. played him! Note that Fred Thomson, who played the lead role, was a gigantic western star of the 1920s, but a year after making this movie, he stepped on a nail, got tetanus and died, and sadly, he is almost completely forgotten today. Also note that Frances Marion used a pseudonym for her screen credit for the screenwriting of this movie (perhaps that was because she was married to star Fred Thomson and didn't want to be accused of nepotism). Also, note that the "Biographer and Technical adviser" was Jesse E. James, who was the sole surviving son of the famous outlaw. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had many creases, smudges, scuffs, pinholes, and tears around the edges of the poster, and many creases and scuffs scattered in the image with some pinholes in the left and right black background areas. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was well backed. You can see signs of the restoration from close up, but from any reasonable viewing distance, it displays great! Learn More about condition grades
