An Original Vintage Folded Circus Poster (measures 28" x 42" [71 x 107 cm]) (Learn More)

The Cole Bros. Circus was a medium-sized American circus which was founded in 1884 as W.W. Cole's New Colossal Shows by William Washington Cole. In the 1930s, the circus employed two noted animal trainers, Clyde Beatty and Allen King, both of whom traveled in their own railroad cars. Another well-known performer with the circus was Bob Strehlau (Juggles the Clown). In 1957, investors merged Beatty's show with the circus to form the Clyde Beatty - Cole Bros. Circus and the show became a major player in the circus industry for over 20 years. In the 1980s, the last surviving investor gifted the circus to Florida State University who later sold it to John W. Pugh who renamed the show back to Cole Bros. Circus. As of 2016 the show was essentially defunct, largely in response to animal rights activists advocating against the use of animals for live performances.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning! Note also that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube.

Condition: good to very good. The poster has a few creases and tears of varying lengths (generally 1" or less but some are larger) along portions of some edges (one of the larger tears is at upper center and it extends through the "O" in "BROS.") It has a few extra folds. There are some paper remnants along portions of the lower edge (see our image). After linenbacking the very rare poster should display well.
