An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Murder Over New York, the 1940 Harry Lachman New York City World War II (WWII) Asian detective mystery crime thriller ("Exciting Thrilling!"; "Based on the character 'Charlie Chan' created by Earl Derr Biggers"; the great detective joins the war effort, helping expose spies who are sabotaging U.S. made bomber planes about to be sent to England to fight against the Nazis) starring Marjorie Weaver, Robert Lowery, Ricardo Cortez, Donald MacBride, Melville Cooper, Joan Valerie, Kane Richmond, Victor Sen Yung (billed as "Sen Yung"; as Jimmy Chan, No. 2 son!), Sidney Toler ("as Charlie Chan"), Shemp Howard, and Donald MacBride. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Important Added Info: Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Also note that this lobby card has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the lobby card was backed onto a very light paper backing (acid-free), that keeps the "feel" of the lobby card similar to that of the original lobby card. Some restorers prefer to paperback lobby cards on to a heavy backing, while others prefer to use a very lightweight backing. The advantage of a lightweight backing is that the card still "feels" like a regular lobby card, but a heavier backing makes restoration easier to do and less noticeable. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the card had tears and small paper loss in the bottom center, affecting some of the letters of the credits in the center of the large credits box. It had a tape stain in the center of the top blank border and some small paper loss near the center of the bottom blank border, with pinholes in the corners. Overall, the lobby card was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. The card was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
